Worthless

Here’s one for you…

I’ve been asked, when discussing with theists, to read their various holy books (usually the Bible) with an open mind. The implication is that, if I gave their book an honest and open minded look, I’d become convinced and start believing, as they do. Further it’s implied that I’m not as open minded as I claim to be but rather closed to religion because I do not carefully examining their various books with the agnostic (i.e. undecided) attitude… If you want to prove that the Bible or the Koran, or any other Holy Booktm is really of divine nature, you must rely on other sources. This is where the conversation usually halts. “But Messiah said it requires faith to believe!”

He’s absolutely right, you know. We won’t admit it, of course. It’s too scary, too unnerving… why, it’s downright heretical! We’ll put our blinders on, pull out the holy relics and shake them around, call down hell and damnation on the unbelievers and feel better about our inability to relate.

What in the world is wrong with “us” that we act in such a way to be tarred and feathered as such evil, uncaring and bird-brained folks? Do we sincerely believe that this is the impression the Jesus we claim to follow wants us to present to a world who doesn’t know him?

I don’t think so.

Your eternity depends on if you have selected the correct decoder ring to decipher these passages.  Salvation is nothing more than knowing God’s Secret Handshake.

We’d best figure out how to present our case by the way we live, not by the flavor of church we go to or the brand/version of Christianity we maintain is the best/legitimate.

Our “religion” is worthless. Our pettiness is sinful. Our lack of love is disgusting.

Crazy, huh? So was Jesus.
