Jesus the whoopie cushion

jesus-cushion-faceTHOUSANDS of people have flocked to a Roman Catholic church on the French Indian Ocean island of Reunion after believers said they saw the “face of Christ” in the pleats of a church cushion.

“This is not a miracle, it’s a sign of God,” said parish priest Daniel Gavard.

Full story.

And we wonder why the world thinks “church” is worthless…

  1. Yep, I can see the ridiculous angle in this story, but I also see people desperate for hope/a reason to believe and secure their faith. People are (according to pyschologists and theologians) searching for significance and security…seeing God in anything would certainly aim in that direction….just a random thought as I read the article.

Don’t even get me started with this nonsense. People aren’t finding significance because they aren’t looking in the right places.

  3. My question is how do they know it’s the face of Christ.? Do they have a Polaroid laying around at the Vatican they can compare it to? To me it looks more like the face of Jimmy Durante or Mr. Magoo, or the giant statues called Moai that are on Easter Island.

  4. patrickandchristy,
I agree that significance is found in our identity in Christ.
Feel free to pick up the book Effective Biblical Counseling by Dr. Larry Crabb, christian psychologist….significance and security are found in God, according to him…that is what I am referring to in my comment above.

  5. spekaing of things like these… there was an enitre movie (Henry Poole was here) that was about people coming to touch the face of Jesus that appeared on the side of this guys house and then the picture of Jesus had blood on it and if you touched Jesus’ face He healed you.

I personally would rather not follow a God that is so easily confined to mildue and a drop of blood but rather one that died an excrutiating death only to rise again in order to bridge the gap for those that believed and followed.

Rachele, the nonsense comment wasn’t directed at you. It’s the whole “Jesus on a seat cushion” thingy. I’ve posted about nonsense like this before.

As Christians, we know that true security and significance is found in God only. Well, at least we should be often even Christians are looking in the wrong places. I’m sure the Dr. Crabb’s book is good but the Bible has already clearly stated this several thousands years before him. If we read God’s Word and earnestly seek Him and the knowledge and wisdom that comes through having an intimate relationship with Him, then we don’t need anyone, or anything to state what is obvious in His Word.
